the short ones run out. one year at a time, forever. A name on RNS resolves to your address, and your address resolves back to it. Nothing is reserved, there is no allowlist and no cap — from the first block it is first transaction wins, at the same burn for everybody.

What you burn depends only on how long the name is, per year, every year. It is a frozen constant in the contract: there is no function that changes it and no owner who could.

how it works
- claim. pick a name, burn the fee, and it is yours for a year and resolves to your address from that block on.
- renew. any time, up to five years ahead, at the same burn. anybody can renew a live name and it always credits the owner.
- expire. thirty days of amber warning, then a thirty day grace month only the owner can renew in, then it is free and the records are wiped.
- send. it is a real ERC-721 with its plate drawn on chain, so it can be transferred or sold like anything else.
